Variations of Dominoes
If you like to play games involving tiles, you will most likely enjoy playing dominoes. These rectangular tiles have square ends marked with a number of spots. Double-twelve
A double-twelve domino set has thirteen tiles of the twelves suit. When a player has four of the twelves tiles left, a tableau is complete. There are variations of the game for two, three, and four players. These variations vary in the number of tiles required for each player.
Double-twelve dominoes are larger than ordinary dominoes. They are also used for games such as Mexican Train Dominoes. A typical game of dominoes involves playing rounds until one person has a total of 100 points. A shorter game might only require fifty points.
Five-Up
Five-Up domino is a point-based game. It is part of the “Fives Family” of traditional games and is played with a standard Western Dominoes set of 28 tiles. The rules are similar to other games in the Fives Family, including All Fives and Muggins.
Five-Up domino is played with two to four players and is usually played on a Cribbage board. The game was invented and popularized in the 60s by Dominic C. Armanino, an author of four books on dominoes. Armanino was a passionate advocate for the game and wrote about it in Life magazine.
European-style
A European-style domino is made of bone, ivory, or silver-lip oyster shell. The back of a European-style domino is blank or marked with a logo. In order to play the game, both sides of the dominoes must be the same. Wooden dominoes are also available, though these are only intended for indoor use. The game of dominoes dates back to ancient China during the Yuan Dynasty. There is a passage in a book from 1232-1298 that mentions dominoes. It has also been suggested that some early versions of the game may have been akin to dice.
The most basic form of domino involves two players. Each player starts with a double-six set of dominoes and draws seven tiles at a time. The players then alternately extend their lines of play. In the end, the winning player has the lowest number of pip count in his or her hand. The game is usually over in less than 15 minutes.
Chinese

The game has many differences from Western dominoes. For example, Chinese dominoes do not contain blank tiles. The standard double-six set is made up of thirty-two tiles, while Western sets are made of 28 tiles. Some modern sets are made to look like art, or feature embossing or other features.
